This is a question that gets asked a lot on Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, and elsewhere.
“Where is Grifball? Where is the Grifball playlist?”
For the past five years, GrifballHub has had the privilege of being responsible for creating the Grifball maps and gametypes that go into matchmaking. The Grifball community makes them and, after careful vetting from our own forge wizards, we send them to 343 Industries for possible inclusion in the Grifball matchmaking playlist. We did this for Reach (Bungie and 343) and Halo 4 (343). Some members of the Grifball community, such as NOKYARD, were also instrumental in building the courts you enjoyed in Halo 3 Grifball.
So the MCC? In short, the main reason is that Halo 3 Forge is broken. It’s so broken that Halo 3 Grifball, the original version of the sport, is impossible to create. There is a menu missing in the game that would allow one to edit maps for objective gametypes. Since this menu is missing, you cannot create or move objects like flag capture points, oddball spawns, or bomb plants.
343 is aware of the issue and a fix is on their to-do list.
It’s just a very long list.
Halo 4 Grifball is playable right now, however. We are running MCC Halo 4 Grifball leagues and events at GrifballHub. If you’d like to download Grifball and play with your friends in custom games, you can find maps and gametypes on the fileshare of Kalbelgarion.
The Grifball community does not want to submit maps and gametypes to 343 for matchmaking consideration until we can create the very best. The main selling point of the Master Chief Collection was to recreate the Halo experience exactly as we remember it. That includes Halo 3 Grifball, so we want any Grifball playlist to include both Halo 4 and Halo 3 Grifball.
Please don’t be surprised if you don’t see a Grifball playlist anytime soon. The first thing that needs to happen is fixing Halo 3 Forge; THEN the Grifball community will submit maps and gametypes to 343 for a possible Grifball playlist.
