The Weekly Check-In is a weekly interview with the admins and elected/appointed committee heads in an effort to facilitate better communication between players and admins. This week, Pisani and Menz (Stats/Disputes) spoke about week 1 of GBSL10, stats, and other issues.
How has the first week gone? Any recurring problems that could be clarified?
LBCountry – Not that I was contacted about. I got plenty of emails/PMs about issues, but they were various and unrelated for the most part.
Are the rules still being adjusted or reviewed and when do you expect them to be posted?
LBCountry – For Pro, I’m waiting for SpudHead to get back from wherever he’s at so that he can finalize the new rules. For Ammy, I’ve yet to communicate with Bobby directly regarding any rules changes/re-coding the current rules so that they’re current.
How did the first week go in terms of games being played?
menz – VERY few Pro games were played (4), and about half the Amateur games.
Do you think having a set schedule for pro will encourage / help pro teams play their games, or will they wait until the last second?
LBCountry – We don’t have a set schedule, and even if we did everyone would play whenever they felt like it anyway. We’re a pretty random, largely disorganized, and entirely apathetic group of Grifball players.
So the grid on the front page is more of a guidelines than a set schedule?
LBCountry – Yeah, they’re technically the game days, but they’re organized more in a manner that just allows teams to be matched up with other teams with common play times. The days written down are there pretty much as an outline of when the teams can play, at least in practice. Teams could just play on their 3 days and get through it all fine, but almost none of them actually do.
Out of the games played, does it look like the matches are mostly blow-outs, close, or a combination?
menz – It really depends on which teams are playing. Some of the veteran Amateur teams had matches against teams playing their first ever league games, and there were some Pro-caliber teams that faced off in close matches.
All the stats for week 1 have been recorded, that’s pretty impressive.
menz – Yeah, I’ve definitely learned from the mistakes I made previously. Last season, I just had people that were helping, but it was a big free-for-all for who did what, and nothing got done. This season I assigned certain people to certain divisions, and so far it’s working fantastic. A big thank you to xl Neo xl, TheOneHawk, and D Hans (Spudhead) for the work they’ve put in so far. I have my fingers crossed that they’ll stick with it for the whole season…knock on wood.
Will the stats be posted publicly?
Menz – Stats will be posted on the front page and on GrifballHub.com.
Anything else in particular that you’d like to put out there?
LBCountry – I’d like to remind folks that there will be Waypoint-posted League highlight reels this season if they send in clips. Send in your clip to highlights@grifball.com, and please include the week in the subject.
Menz – Please, please, please, PLEASE file your disputes properly. I really don’t like having to search for all the information for the disputes committee to properly look at disputes. We’ve had 3 filed so far this season, and all have been done improperly, although in one of them they did go back and fix it
