Top 10 Tanks of Grifball
Posted by Zeg on May 22nd, 2009
The top 10 series continues this off-season, but switches focus from teams to players. This week, the top 10 tanks are looked at.
A tank’s job is simple – kill enough people so the ball carrier can score.
Although all tanks have a common goal, the way they accomplish it is completely different. Some tanks use swords, host, defensive tanking, radar turning, and many other techniques to become successful. Some tanks simply go for kills, others only go for kills they have to get to lead the carrier in. The best tanks can switch between roles with ease, which eventually leads to their team’s success.
The Top 10 was chosen based on kills per game, k/d per game, betrayals, quality of team, ability to help team, host, and community members input. Preference was given to members still playing. All stats are since Spring League ’08.
| Rank |
Player Name |
| 1 |
Thumee |
| If not for constantly changing gamer tags, Thumee would be number three on the k/d chart, despite being on good to great teams for most of his career. Thumee also grabs the number one spot for having most of his stats come off-host and winning a championship last season. Thumee leads a runner in perfectly for scores, and averages just under a betrayal and a half a game. He averages +21 a game, and is +781 in his 37 games.

| 2 |
Shadow S16 |
| If winning is what sets the great tanks apart from the good; Shadow would be the best tank of all time. Shadow’s team has played in every game except one since the first league. Clutch play and two championships put Shadow in the two spot despite having a little under a +11 k/d per game average. He is +486 in his 46 game career, ranking in the top ten of all time. |
| 3 |
I CITI I |
| Citi’s patience and knowledge of the hammer range allows him to be a killing machine. Racking up a +809 k/d (just under +22 a game) over his 37 game career, Citi has the best k/d of all time, with a majority of it coming off host. His lack of a championship, and varying team success put him at number three. |
| 4 |
RedBarron |
| Redbarron is quickly climbing up the k/d chart after only 26 games played. +575 all time (+22 a game) almost all, if not all, coming off-host allows Redbarron to pick up the number four spot, despite not being the best of lead-in tanks. |
| 5 |
Zeg |
| Noticeably better on host than off, Zeg rounds out the top five. Like Thumee, Zeg has been on good to great teams his entire career and has one championship coming from SML08. His +714 over 41 games ranks 4th all time in k/d, a little over +17 a game. Zeg also has one of the lower betrayals per game of the elite tanks. |
| 6 |
Crowing |
| Crowing, not KTM, has only had host a couple times (if ever), and if not for a poor Summer league, would rank higher on this list. Crowing’s teams have varying success with the high point being with a championship with GSH, and the low point being the Xtr3m3 upset of American Dream. +381 through 28 career games, a little over +13.5 a game, mean his stats don’t compare with some of the other tanks behind him, but his championship puts him above them. |
| 7 |
Bfri |
| Being a host machine and the primary tank on a conservative team gives you plenty of time to get kills, which is why the number two all time k/d (+789 in 37 games) is ranked so low. The high-point of his career came when Punching Ghosts made it to the elite eight in WL09. |
| 8 |
TnT Bioshocker |
| Bioshocker’s glory days came on the conservative Power Outage team that rode his host to a final four appearance before losing to SYLaL in dramatic fashion. +323 in 18 games, +18 a game, on pretty solid teams demonstrate TnT’s ability as a tank in both the lead, and support roles. |
| 9 |
HighlndHellrazr |
| Highland’s host and betrayals (over 3 a game) hurt him in the top 10, however his rookie league championship keeps him on the list. +364 in 21 games, +17 a game, is quite solid when the quality of teams he is facing is taken into consideration. |
| 10 |
Delta Force |
| +430 in 30 games, Delta has established himself as one of the top tanks in the league. Almost all of his stats have come off-host, and the only thing to keep him from being higher on the list is his team’s success. |

[...] the stats. I love playing defense and coming up huge, scoring a sick goal, or leading in a tank. Zeg says I’m a tank, but I enjoy running the ball, but if I feel that I will help my team more by tanking, I will [...]
