Thinking about joining the Grifball league? First and foremost, welcome to the most exciting video game sport. This article is here to help and guide as well as better informing you of the system of Grifball.
What is Grifball? Grifball is a sport that has been designed within the Halo 3 game. Created by Grif from Red vs. Blue, this sport features only hammers, swords and a single neutral bomb. The general setup for league games is two teams of four pitted against each other to take control the neutral bomb and score it. League rules implement nine rounds with no time limit to ensure no ties. This might be a little confusing at first if you have only played Double EXP Weekend Grifball, but it is an easy transition. Grifball has its very own “map” created using forge on the Foundry map.
The basics of Grifball are very simple. There are essentially four positions that can be chosen.
- The Tank – The Tank is the “killer” on the team. They usually use hammers. The Tank’s role is to eliminate the oppositions frontlines so that the bomb can advance and score. They are the frontlines of offense.
- The Runner – The Runner carries the bomb. He uses his Tanks to advance the bomb. There are many different ways to run the bomb. Generally you want your Runner to be quick-witted, able to make snap decisions and have a good vision of the court.
- The Defender – The Defender’s role is simply kill the enemies Runner. They usually use the sword. This seems to be a dying position as teams pefer the extra Tank or Hybrid.
- The Hybrid – Combines Runner’s and Tank’s abilities. Can do either position equally well.
Now that you have decided what position you are and are ready to join the league, you must create and account on Rooster Teeth. After this, you should head to the Grifball forums and within the first five to ten threads there will be a “looking for teams/players” thread for your respective area of the world. In that thread it will show you an example of how to post that you are a free agent. After following this step you should head to the “LOCKED READ FIRST: GB FORUM RULES” thread. You should read the rules carefully and follow them at all times.
Now that you have signed up, how do you improve as a player? First off, TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE OF THE DOUBLE EXP GRIFFBALL WEEKENDS! This is a great way to meet league players and build up your own skills. Another step is find people who practice all the time. You can find them in the weekend playlist or the forums.
Another way to improve your skills is to volunteer as a random for team scrimmages. You can find a thread that posts days that teams would like to scrimmage. Do not be insulted though if teams do not want to scrimmage against randoms. You can alsways message me on XBL (Green Team Tex) and I can see if someone is practicing and send you their way.
Green Team Tex’s Quick Guide to the Forums
Posting on the Rooster Teeth forums can be fun. Here are some tips to keep it fun and safe:
- Always be respectful and nice. No need to be a douchbag ever!
- There is no need to post on every single thing when you have no idea what you are talking about. Be reasonable and post appropriately.
- If someone needlessly insults you, do not fight fire with fire. Let the mods take care of it, if its bad enough. You will gain respect in the community this way.
- Read the entire thread before posting. Too many times have I seen someone misread a post and think they were being insulted.
- Remember to have fun. It is a game afterall.
Following this guide will not ensure you will be a great Grifball player, but it will lead you in the right direction. Remember you can always ask, otherwise you might never learn. Have fun and once again welcome to Grifball. Catch the fever!

Can we tag this on the main page? Stuff like this should be main page info.
I’m going to be putting featured posts back into the sidebar soon. I’ll include it.
Defence, a dying position? I think not! =P
Just proves the old adage. It’s an ill wind that blows no good.
