The American Grifball Cup is a tournament to determine which U.S. State (or Canada) can claim Ultimate Grifball Supremacy. Teams are comprised of players from the same home state, or in some cases, players from the same geographic region. Each round, teams will be paired against an opposing team and play a best of three series to determine who will advance to the next round. In the end, only one team will emerge victorious and earn the right to call their state, region or country the Supreme Grifball Center of the Universe.
Grifballer TNT Bioshocker approached Grifball Hub to help design and organize the American Grifball Cup and was kind enough to answer a few questions for this article.
How did you come up with the idea for the American Grifball Cup?
The initial idea came from That One Rocker who tried it before or recently after Summer League ’08. It started out strong but it lacked certain structure which caused it to fail. Ever since that day, I have dreamed of a recreation of the American Grifball Cup(AGC) and to see it in such good hands. I’m pretty pumped!
Why did you approach the Hub to help run the Cup?
I approached the Hub because I needed a group of reliable people to make it happen. Lord knows, I am extremely unreliable and I didn’t want to see this idea fail again. I figured the Hub was a logical place to turn.
Which state or regional team do you think will win the Cup?
Without a question, Team Minnesota *coughSI+friendscough* seems to be the early favorite and I think they will remain the favorite all the way to the championship.
The American Grifball Cup is scheduled to begin Monday, June 1 with the championship match to be held sometime during the fourth week of June. To sign up for the tournament, post your gamertag and state of residence in the American Grifball Cup Information thread on the Grifball forum. You can click here to view the team rosters. Since players are still being added and removed, teams are subject to change.
