Penguinocalypse (pwnguinmessiah) is considered by most to be one of the best all around players in the league. Though often times the stats won’t suggest it, it’s his court vision and ability to make huge game changing plays which makes him an asset to his team. He is also easily one of the most respected players in Grifball.
Penguin plays for the legacy team Bleep Bloop, who were formerly known as Super Happy Sunshine.
1. How long have you been involved with the sport of Grifball?
It took some research but apparently I have been playing Grifball for 14(!) months.
2. What kind of player are you?
I like to think I’m a well rounded player. The reality is that my hammer isn’t quite good enough to be a tank, my stiff-arm isn’t quite good enough to be a runner, and my sword isn’t quite good enough to be a ‘defender’ :P
3. If you could change one thing about Grifball or its community, what would that be?
Everyone’s going to say ‘arguing and douchebagginess’ but to be honest, there’s not more or less than any other online community. I would probably say a little more support/online-ness from ‘admins’ – more ‘official’ bum rushes and functioning stats etc.
4. Is there a player/team that has inspired your style of play?
In our second ever league game we played the previous season’s champions – Cannonball. Flowers pulled off a now-common move called a ‘wall-hop’ which was, at that point, the most amazing thing I had ever seen. I wouldn’t say he inspired my play but he certainly has made me aware of how far you can go before reaching the ‘limit’ of what is possible in this game.
5. Name one player who always gives you fits when you play against them. What makes them so difficult to play against?
MoralesBrothers – lol!!! I’m not sure. I feel that there’s not a single player who consistently has me beaten by some great amount. There are certainly many players who probably beat me one on one 60%+ of the time but there’s nobody (off-host) who I absolutely dread playing. There are certainly teams I hate playing against but unless it’s someone like Zeg (HOST!) there’s nobody who scares me all of the time.
6. Name one player you think is underrated by most. Why?
ColHotShot. As an individual player HotShot is a good runner of the ball. With his team, however, he becomes a true leader and captain – a real ‘Cheesy Sports Movie’ style game changer. We’ve scrimmed CAG more times than I care to remember and I’d guess that his influence on the court (and off – in planning and practice) is worth about two points per game to CAG’s performance – equal to that of any one ‘top’ runner or ‘tank’.
7. Name one player you think is overrated by most. Why?
Puptastrophe :P. Honestly, there’s nobody out there I consider overrated enough to offend them by putting them in this list. There are certainly a few I can think of who are overrated but none worth mentioning.
8. Besides Grifball, what other games/sports do you play?
I absolutely love football – some of you call it ‘soccer’.
9. In your opinion, do stats matter in Grifball?
The ‘Goals’ stat certainly does. Stats are a pretty good indication of a player or team’s performance, having no other information available, but they certainly do not ‘matter’ in a host, connection, teamwork or skill kind of a way.
10. If you could offer words of advice to rookie players, what would they be?
If you do not enjoy Grifball enough to want to practice one on one ball running with a friend to improve your game then you will be beaten by most of the legacy teams. That’s the fact of the matter. There are certainly some players skilled enough to be an exception to this rule, but having a solid team who you enjoy playing with is the number one thing that will make you better at grifball (while increasing your enjoyment of the game).

You said nothing of me? I at least expected an overrated Scet Shin or something… You have crushed me Penguin… you have crushed me.
