Ten Questions with J Nogard

jnogard

J Nogard plays for the legacy grifball team That’s What She Said. This season TWSS currently has a record of 11-0 and find themselves in the elite eight of the GBWL09 playoffs.

1. How long have you been involved with the sport of Grifball?
I have been involved in grifball since Spring league playoffs. I joined a team who did not make the playoffs, so I had a chance to learn the game through scrimmages.

2. What kind of player are you?
I play as a tank in league games, but I have started to fulfill my role as a hybrid as well. If my hammer doesn’t work, my sword does. If my sword doesn’t work, my hammer does. I can also make some lolzy plays with the ball (triple kills, etc), but cannot kill anyone with it one on one.

3. If you could change one thing about Grifball or its community, what would that be?
I would change a lot of how things are run, and try to remove all the DRAMA

4. Is there a player/team that has inspired your style of play?
Super Happy Sunshine/Bleep Bloop inspired me in grifball. They play the game for fun, which is something that most teams do not. They show that you don’t need to be so serious to play well.

5. Name one player who always gives you fits when you play against them. What makes them so difficult?
lolz. Puppy (puptastrophe) is the hardest person for me to kill. I can kill top tanks in the league more than I can kill him. He can just beat me. End of story…no idea why. If I knew why, he wouldn’t be able to do it anymore…lol.

6. Name one player you think is underrated by most. Why?
hmmm… I believe those of us on That’s What She Said (TWSS) and the people on Punching Ghosts were underrated, although I believe that is changing…lol.

7. Name one player you think is overrated by most. Why?
I believe all the well known ball runners are overrated. Nkot, Twiz, Andrew Panton. I don’t think any of them are very good. Although Andrew has the best stiff arm out of the there. I believe what makes them good is there tanks.

8. Besides Grifball, what other games/sports do you play?
I play a lot of video games so I won’t get into that. But I also fight in real life. I have done Taekwondo for 14 of my 18 years of life. I compete in TKD at an international level, and have tried to get into the Olympics once, losing to the guy who went by one point.

9. In your opinion, do stats matter in Grifball?
No, I don’t care about stats for anything other than joking about them with my team. I kill myself on purpose all the time so that my team can have an advantage (get myself punched so someone els can sword the ball, stuff like that). I find playing with a suicide state of mind means that your team can do things that you wouldn’t be able to do otherwise (win games while being out tanked).

10. If you could offer words of advice to rookie players, what would they be?
Play for fun. Don’t play so seriously. It’s just a game, learn to chill. It’s something that I try my best to do…lol.
