Ten Questions with Armyman09

bloodoath

Armyman played this season with Blood Oath. They were considered by most to be one of the top teams in the Winter League. Heading into the playoffs with a number 2 seed, Blood Oath were certainly one of the favorites to go all the way before meeting up and losing to the Grunts of Fury in the elite eight.

1. How long have you been involved with the sport of Grifball?
I have been playing Grifball since the very first league. L.I.E FTW

2. What kind of player are you?
I am all tank, I can run if needed but I am far from the best. My tanking though is really just keeping people at bay and trying to beast my way through to their spawn. Also for some reason I pull off some amazing hammer lunges, so I love to use those to get some really good double and triple kills on guys.

3. If you could change one thing about Grifball or its community, what would that be?
Easily host. It has become too reliable for a lot of teams and having host gone would really show off people’s real skill. The community though…I would like to see all the drama go. Every season now there is some sort of drama. This latest was everyone being mad at MooCow. I felt he did a good job under the conditions he had. But without the drama, Grifball would be such a more fun sport.

4. Is there a player/team that has inspired your style of play?
When I first started playing we played in the UK division so I didn’t really follow anyone’s tanking style but my own. But later on I started to play with Grunts of Fury more and in our playoff game me and Shadow had some amazing hammer duels. So I have to say that throughout the leagues I have changed my style a little bit to rival Shadow’s and more recently Zeg’s. Zeg is an amazing tank on or off host (although host makes him a beast). I have been trying lately just changing small things to my tanking to rival Zeg’s hammer and his range.

5. Name one player who always gives you fits when you play against them. What makes them so difficult?
Lately since I have been playing against SI a lot (my bff Zeg) Zeg and I Citi I have really been difficult to tank against. They both pull good host and their range is amazing. So trying to counter that range is really hard, but it also helps in getting better at tanking. Lord Stanley also is a hard person to tank against. He connects to everyone’s host so well that he is really consistent all the time.

6. Name one player you think is underrated by most. Why?
Tie between between three people. Lord Stanley, AJ Cena, and Goomba Obama. Lord Stanley is a solid tank…a very solid tank, and on top of being an amazing tank, he can connect to anyone’s host perfectly. Not many people talk about him because he isn’t really active anywhere, but when you play with him at least once you will remember him. AJ Cena, I know everyone hates him but he is still a pretty good tank and what makes him better is that he connects to host well too, so he is a very consistent tank. Goomba Obama is very underrated. Not many people put up with him but he is one of the quickest people in Grifball. When I say quickest I mean he moves exactly where he is needed at the perfect times. In the few times I have played against him he is in the most perfect position that leads to a lot of goals.

7. Name one player you think is overrated by most. Why?
Everyone is saying themselves but I am going to be very honest and say myself here. This season of Grifball has easily been my worst season so far. I don’t know but taking a huge break in between seasons and then getting about 6 forfeit wins in the regular season didn’t help at all. So this season I played my worst, barely going positive in our playoff games and doing very bad in scrimmages. So I see myself as very overrated, but this next season I am going to be playing a lot more and hopefully won’t find myself in another fail division that leads to us getting no practice whatsoever.

8. Besides Grifball, what other games/sports do you play?
I used to play baseball but recently after getting a job and then working with a lot of side projects I stopped playing that. But other than that I play a lot of video games, obviously. Some of my favorites right now are Fallout 3, COD4, Left4Dead, Grand Theft Auto 4 and Guitar Hero. Other than that I like to also play a lot of Command and Conquer with friends. That is always fun.

9. In your opinion, do stats matter in Grifball?
A lot of people think that stats are the most important thing in this game. I myself like to go positive, it makes me feel good, but what really matters is getting the ball to the goal. So if it means dying on purpose to get somebody to betray another person then its worth it. In the end the only stats that matter are how many goals you got.

10. If you could offer words of advice to rookie players, what would they be?
Don’t get caught up in the drama on the forums and join a team with people that you enjoy playing with. Even if you guys lose every season, as long as you are having fun it’s better than winning with a team full of people you hate. And remember if you want to get better, it’s always good to go off and play with teams that are way better than you. That is always the best practice you can have.
