Is it just me or has this season been full of drama and lack of games played? Amateur league has had two teams banned and more forfeit factories then I would like to admit. Pro league has disputed almost every game played (and it’s not that many either). What is the cause of this?
Some might say it is the summertime and people are far too busy to be playing games. People go on vacations for an extensive amount of time during the summer season. You would think kids being out of school would only help to have more time. With more free time, people find more things to do. Kids don’t have to say they are going to do their homework and skip out by relaxing in front of the TV with some Grifball.
Next, it could be people are just flat out tired of Halo 3/Grifball. Halo 3 is on its third year, Grifball is on its second. That’s a very long life for a console game. People have moved on to newer games after Halo 3/Grifball got boring to them. Halo 3 games survive so long because they have different variants to play. Grifball has assault, that’s it. It’s a possibility that it is losing its luster.
Lastly, I have heard a few people say after the dismal spring season and complete failure of playoffs, that they got turned off of Grifball entirely. Lack of administration presence made it complete chaos last season. We had teams banned, reinstated. Teams knocked out of the playoffs, only to replace someone else in later rounds. With an inconsistent season, people might have been dissuaded to actually play this season.
In closing, I believe most likely it’s a splash of all these plus people waiting for Reach. Reach will prove to bring back the huge turn outs in league size like back in ’08. If we just hold tight, adapt to the changes we have to make, Grifball will thrive once more. All you have to do is play.
