It’s time for Grifball action!
Signups are now open for Fall 2011 season of GrifballHub’s Good Games League (GGL). If you’re an old veteran, you can jump right in and sign your team up here. If you’re new to this, read on for more information.
The GGL is a recreational Grifball league with a focus on one thing: Having fun! If you’re looking to have a good time, make some friends, and share some laughs, this is the league for you. Our league is very laid-back and welcoming to new players. Since Reach launched last year, hundreds of teams have signed up for the GGL, many of which had never played in a Grifball league before!
If you don’t have a team yet, don’t fret. You still have a week to find three other players for your squad. If you want to find other folks to play with, post in this thread. But be proactive! Send XBL messages and forum messages to other people who are also looking for a team.
We’ll be running a special Free Agent and Captain Mixer on Wednesday, September 21st, starting at 9:00PM Eastern. Simply post your information (Gamertag, experience, preferred gameday, etc) in the Looking for a Team/Looking for a Player thread, and we’ll be sending invites out to free agents and captains. It’ll be your chance to meet other Grifballers, expand your friends’ list, and maybe even make a team!
If you have a team of four all set for the season, you need to identify when you would like to play. Your team will be responsible for showing up every week, starting the week of October 3, at the time below of your choosing:
Mondays at 8:00PM EST
Tuesdays at 8:00PM EST
Wednesdays at 10:00PM EST
Thursdays at 10:00PM EST
Fridays at 11:00PM EST / Saturday at 1:00PM Australian EST
Saturdays at 2:00PM EST / 6:00PM GMT
Sundays at 7:00PM EST
We’ll ask you in the signup form to pick your first choice and second choice. This will help us put everyone in the correct division.
You will also have to choose which gametype you would prefer: Vanilla Grifball (which has no Armor Abilities), or Grifball Dash (which has both Sprint and Evade). You’ll be placed in a division with other teams that also prefer that gametype.
After you sign up, you will be treated to a short video explaining the basics of the league. Watch the video and then click on the link below the video to finish your registration. If you do not complete this last step, your team will not be included in the league.
Captains should also review the official rules of the league.
When you sign up, you are making a commitment to have your team online and ready to play at your chosen time, every week for five weeks. You will play two games every week at the time you sign up for. If an unforeseen circumstances arise, and one or more of your players cannot make it to a weekly match, you can substitute in any league player you want to play for your team. If your entire squad can’t make it one week, you can also reschedule for another night or make up the game during the “makeup week”, which is the week after the five-week regular season.
If you need players to sub in for your team, check out this list. Click on the players’ name that is available that night, and if they are on Xbox Live, send them a message inviting them to the game!
Teams that register for the league will be placed into divisions of six teams each. Divisions will be set up based on team availability, preferred gametype, and level of experience. Each squad will play every other team in their division twice, for a total of ten games over five weeks. At the end of the regular season, the top teams will move on to the playoffs. In the end, we will have one Dash Grifball team and one Vanilla Grifball team standing atop the league. Throughout the season we will also be keeping track of the stats from every game and handing out “awards” for those who top certain categories, like kills, goals, and betrayals!
Teams will be assigned one day a week to play their games. If your team is only free on Monday evenings, then your team will only be asked to play on Monday nights. Once the league begins, setting up the games couldn’t be easier: On your gamenight, check the schedule, invite the other team’s captain, set up the custom game, and play! You and your team will be provided with a fun, recreational Grifball experience every week! For more information on our gamenight procedure, check out this article.
Folks from around the world are welcome to join the league, too. However, teams from Europe must sign up for the Saturday at 6:00PM GMT time slot. Teams from Australia, surrounding Oceania, and Asia must sign up for the Fridays at 11:00PM EST / Saturday at 1:00PM Australian EST time slot. If you need help with timezones, check out this time zone converter.
Perhaps the best part about the league is that you are free to play on any Grifball map and gametype you want. If you are in a Vanilla division, the default gametype is GGL Vanilla FL2011, and the default map is the familiar Bloody Grifball. If you are in a Dash division, the default gametype is GGL Dash FL2011 and the map is Sierra Vista. Both default gametypes are five-round untimed games.
But if you want to try out something else, you’re more than free to do so, as long as both captains in the match agree on the settings. Feel free to look around our Map and Gametype Resource Center. Or if Matchmaking settings are your thing, you can download the matchmaking maps and gametypes here. When it comes to how you play, teams are free to go nuts!

Finally, our recreational league has one more bonus: Grifball Achievements! Called “Achieveables”, these fun challenges are presented every week as something neat for your team to try during your weekly games. For example, we might challenge you to win the game with your entire team having an overall negative Kill/Death ratio. If you complete a challenge during the regular season, your team will be awarded GrifPoints. At the end of the season, the teams with the highest GrifScore will make the playoffs, regardless of their record! So you could lose every game (go 0-10), and still make it to the postseason! More information on our Achieveables is available in this detailed article.
If you have any questions about the league, our events, the maps and gametypes, or the Achieveables, please feel free to ask! You can send a message to Kalbelgarion or Goosechecka, the heads of the league, fill out this contact form, leave a comment below, or post a question on our forums.
If you’re looking for more Grifball, now is the perfect time to jump in! Signups are open for one week, so get your team together and sign up for the league!
See you on the court!
