Are you a long-time Grifballer, returning to the game for Reach? Or maybe you’re a new person who has heard of Grifball, but has never played? In either case, GrifballHub is here to ease you into the game.
Grifball is a two-team game of Neutral Assault played with eight players. There is one bomb and two bomb plants on a simple box court. When a player picks up the bomb, he gains an overshield and becomes faster. Players are equipped with swords and hammers, although the bomb itself can also be used as a weapon.
If you’re looking to play Grifball right now, you’ve come to the right place. Although Grifball isn’t currently in Matchmaking, Bungie does plan on introducing it sometime in the future. In the meantime, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the sport:
Right now, the most popular Grifball gametype in Reach is Grifball Evolved v2.1. It was designed to be played on Nuclear Taco 42’s GGL Coliseum. This gametype features hammers and swords as well as two Armor Abilities: Sprint and Evade. Be careful, though–when carrying the bomb a player can no longer use Evade!
Other gametypes are available, including Vanilla Grifball (the game with no Armor Abilities) and SkyBall on the SkyCourt (Grifball with Jetpacks). We also recommend checking out other maps, too, including Bloody Grifball by famed mapmaker RunNokyardRun.
You can see all of our currently available maps and gametypes here. Check back often–the collection grows every day!
To play, simply download the gametype and map of your choice and load up a custom game with seven of your friends. If you want a more structured environment, GrifballHub is offering two ways to get Hammered:
1) Play in our Grifball in Reach Neighborhood Tournaments (GRUNTs)! Our next one is tonight, September 24 at 9:00PM EST. We’ll be playing Grifball Evolved v2.1 on the GGL Coliseum. All you need to do to play in the GRUNT is register your team of four or more once signups open at 9:00PM EST. Once signups close at 9:30PM, a bracket will be posted here at GrifballHub.com and your team will face off against others in a single-elimination tournament. The last team standing, the champions, will win a featured team interview here at GrifballHub.com!
If you can’t make it tonight, don’t worry. We have more tournament scheduled for next week. You can see what tournaments we have coming up here.
2) Play in our Grifball League! GrifballHub’s Good Game League emphasizes fun over competition. If you would like to have a regular game of Grifball one night a week, sign your team up for our league. More information is available here and here. Click here to sign up your squad!
We also have plenty of community members always looking for a game. Feel free to post in our forums if you’d like to get in on a pick-up game.
Let us know if you have any questions–about the tournaments, about the league, about anything Grifball related–by leaving a comment, posting in the forums, or finding us on Xbox Live.
Hope to see you on the court!
