The Grifball mold is pretty well set. Two teams face off and play until a team hits three or five points. Extra rounds might be played afterwards, but once a team scores the requisite number of points they know they have won.
But what if Grifball were even more sport-like? After all, in soccer the game doesn’t end when a team scores a certain number of runs. Hockey games aren’t called off after someone scores five goals. Baseball games aren’t filled with purposeless innings after a team has already won.
What if teams could score an unlimited number of points in Grifball? What if a team was never truly out of it, as long as there was still time on the clock?
Join us tonight as we put a new spin on Grifball during our NBA Brawl! Like the NBA, which has 12 minute quarters, teams will have 12 minutes to score as many points as they can in one continuous round. At the end of 12 minutes the team with the most points is the victor!
Please note: A mercy rule will be in effect for the tournament. Teams that are behind in a match are more than welcome to take a knee (crouch) and signal their desire to end the game at any point. After crouching and pausing the game, the game can then be ended. This is a perfectly fine course of action for this tournament and teams are encouraged to take this route if they want the game to end.
Signups for tonight’s Brawl will open at 9:00PM EST. Teams of four or more can sign up between 9:00 and 9:30 EST. Once signups close at the bottom of the hour, a round-robin bracket will be posted both on the front page of the Hub and in the NBA Brawl thread.
Teams are to play every team in their group once. The top team from each group will advance to the single-elimination finals, and then we will have our NBA Brawl champions!
To download the gametype and map, look at the Fileshare of Kalbelgarion. The gametype is listed as ’2-26 GrifballHub Brawl’. The map is called Thin Ice. This video walks you through the process. Teams are free to use another standard Grifball map, if both captains approve.
This tournament is entirely separate from the Grifball leagues. You may sign up with the same players and team name as your league team, but it is not a requirement. New teams are welcome to sign up for this event.
If you are looking for a player or a team, post in the NBA Brawl thread and someone might join your squad or pick you up.
Let us know if you have any questions. See you on the court!
