The guys from The Soviet Machine – Nova740, RDG NHL, TimeGnome, and XiXMrClubXiX – were kind enough to sit down with myself and Priest XYZ to answer a few questions about their season, the playoffs, and the future.
*So you’ve made it to the final four. Was this an expectation from the beginning of the season?
RDG NHL – No, we’ve never made playoffs before, so we weren’t expecting much. We were just barely expecting to make playoffs by being second in th division.
TimeGnome: No. I joined the team under the condition that I wouldn’t have to try. My first thought when we made the playoffs was “we get to play Behind Enemy Lines in the final four, cool”.
XiXMrClubXiX: Nova was gone, no internet.
Nova740: I was like a dragon dwelling in a cave playing team slayer and then Comcast came in shining armor and slayed me for 2 months.
You guys definitely flew under the radar this season. Do you think that’s a good or bad thing?
RDG NHL – No, because Soviet Machine is everywhere and everyone hates us. We’ve been in every custom game.
XiXMrClubXiX: I’m very happy because I don’t want to talk to anyone.
Nova740: I don’t care. I just play to have fun and piss off GodsBestFriend. We even have our own song, it’s called The Safety Dance.
TimeGnome: It doesn’t do either. Just makes you less popular.
Nova740: TimeGnome can’t be under the radar, you’ll hear his music before you see him.
*It looks as though you haven’t had much competition at all up to the Final Four. How are you preparing for this game?
RDG NHL – I prepare by playing Left 4 Dead 2. People expect you to play Grifball, and then they know how you play. This way they won’t see anything coming.
XiXMrClubXiX: I dunno. We’re not a strategy heavy team, but I’ll give away our big plan. Our big secret, me Nova and NHL go around and kill everyone. Timegnome takes the bomb in on his own and scores. The one time we made strategies, NHL just kept yelling at us and we had to swing like a gate hinge.
RDG NHL – That was a fun game. Was that against Short Bus?
XiXMrClubXiX: It wasn’t even a game we had to worry about.
Nova740: It’s really simple. I get really high and go to Last.FM and sing until game time.
TimeGnome: I go in every custom game I can blasting music and making everyone into my sex slave.
XiXMrClubXiX: All three parts are equally true, especially the last one.
*In your mind, who’s the player to watch out for in your match against Behind Enemy Lines?
RDG NHL – Look out for all of them on that team. They’re dangerous people. Ghostforwar is one to look out for because he’s hungry for toast.
Nova740: The neutral host up there starring at us. Makes you wonder what they’re doing the entire 20 minutes.
TimeGnome: For the bench player because they’re ninjas. [Priest] should put them all in, have them invisible with swords going WAAAaH!
XiXMrClubXiX: We all know Priest is pretty bad, but seriously, I dunno. I feel like Vegeta is always killing me.
Nova740: He’s on that team?
XiXMrClubXiX: Yeah. I get killed out of nowhere and it’s always Vegeta that killed me.
*Describe this season in three words.
RDG NHL: Super awesome fun.
Nova740: Heart Active God.
TimeGnome: Terrorism training camp.
XiXMrClubXiX: TimeGnome is unstoppable.
Who was your biggest rival in your division?
TimeGnome: Nibbler’s team *sarcasm*.
Nova740: I wouldn’t know, I was dead the entire time.
RDG NHL: -1 Indian, but it was relatively easy. We got lucky with an easy division.
Nova740: Because I hack.
RDG NHL: You didn’t play.
XiXMrClubXiX: The division was a joke. Smiley Central would have been, but they backed out. Other than –1 Indian, they were all cool guys, but they weren’t competition.
What team do you have the most fun playing with?
RDG NHL: Over 9000 bombs. I know them in real life. I was trying to help them through the season but it didn’t end up that well.
Nova740: I don’t even know the teams that are in the final four. People hate me.
XiXMrClubXiX: There’s this one team, I forget their team, but their captain is Rabbi and we get to beat on them… oh wait, it was Priest! We mess around with Priest’s team from time to time. I’m not friends with a lot of people.
TimeGnome: I have fun every time I play. I haven’t played serious custom ever. Anyone would read this would know that I’m a jerk to play with if you’re on my team because I’ll play Kill the Carrier. I have fun playing with every team as long as they don’t boot me. I’m the best at Kill the Carrier.
RDG NHL: No I am, because I actually kill the carrier.
How did your team form?
RDG NHL: I met bloodysmiles and club while in action sack and then they needed another person. We started off as Supervillians. Next season we picked up nova. Then we went 2 – 6 and didn’t even finish the season.
XiXMrClubXiX: That first season is where RDG learned how to play.
RDG NHL: This season, we picked up TimeGnome and gone 12 -0.
XiXMrClubXiX: I bet you can guess who has made the most difference on the team.
As a second season team, what made you come back for another season? Will you be here next season?
RDG NHL – First season we were under a different name and disbanded. We’re a third season team and the reason we’re coming for a 4th is because we did well in our third. We got TimeGnome and figured we should keep playing.
XiXMrClubXiX: I’m back this season because NHL told me that I didn’t have to talk to anyone and I could stay in party chat.
RDG NHL – We’re the antisocial team.
TimeGnome: Don’t be a poser, you love everyone.
Nova740: They haven’t kicked me off the team yet, so I keep coming back.
If you could make one change to the Amateur league, what would it be?
TimeGnome: It’s a place to have fun. Separate try-hard need money to play like T-rich teams and put them in their own the try-hard league.
RDG NHL – There is, it’s called the pro league.
TimeGnome – All the good people should be in pro and all the try-hards should by in the try-hard leave. It’s a game for fun and not to be destroyed and infected by try-hards that don’t understand FUN.
Nova740: I think the ammy league needs more desu.
XiXMrClubXiX: There has to be no tolerance for assholes. Any attempt to cheat in any way and you should be kicked out. The league has no prizes. If you’re gonna take it that serious go away. Too many people that take it too seriously for a game for fun with no prizes at the end.

RDG NHL – After this interview I’m eating muffins.
TimeGnome: What kind?
RDG NHL – Blueberry
TimeGnome: With butter?
RDG NHL: No, it ruins the flavor.

Really? A joke, thanks. I understand that you guys are a powerhouse, and you definitely deserve to be in the playoffs, but a joke, come on. We may have only won three games, but I don’t appreciate this at all. I’m sure I’m going to spark another argument with this just like I did with Spony’s article, but oh well. I like to speak my mind.

I have to agree with Taco here… I think the only reason you might think it was a joke was because of the insane host pulling ability you guys have.

We didn’t really pull host at all except for maybe 2 games. Against -1 indian, we played on Jacob’s host so we didn’t have host pulling abilities. Also, Club was more comparing previous seasons to this one. We’ve had really tough divisions prior.
Okay, that still doesn’t give him the right to call it a joke. Also, I don’t believe that you only pulled host for 2 games for one second. You played us twice and you had host both times, and I’m sure you pulled host more than just our games.

I don’t think that we had host against you guys… Also, we would have NH’d the game if you wanted to. Also, we didn’t pull against Inverse or -1 Indian. We NH’d our first game against Over 9000 and the second time we had host. We don’t have any host pullers on our roster. Also, it’s understandable to get offended by a comment but don’t try and take it out on the entire team. Also, he could have been refering to the division collectively. There were 2 first season teams and 1 forfit factory. Also, my computer isn’t working and it’s hard to type on a Wii. Can’t we either leave it or talk on XBL?
My (previous) team could own your team any day, any time. Well, if you gave us 4 free points, and its 2v6, and you guys have to bonk only, and we have rockets. Then, we could wreck you BKSAMMICHES.

I understand that’s not how you meant it, I just didn’t appreciate it that’s all. I have no problem with you expressing your opinions…just don’t do it around me or this happens. (referring to argument I started) Also, is that a shot at 9000 bombs? Really? I just started an argument over you saying the division was a joke and then you say you had 9000 bombs in your division. I understand you are going to express your opinions, but let’s leave the other teams out of the conversation. Also, yes, Smiley Central was supposed one of the better teams in our division, but things didn’t work out for them. You shouldn’t target them because they had internal issues and dropped out. And another thing, what’s up with the TimeGnome this and TimeGnome that? I understand that according to you and your team he is basically your best player, but instead of talking just about him you should focus more on your team in general and how you guys worked together to get to where you are. Not, we go do this and that and TimeGnome scores on his own.

I’m not taking a shot at over 9000. ive known them a while. nhl is friends with them irl have you spoken to them. theyre the definition of play for fun team. they’re hillarious guys. And yes, i know what happened to smiley, it sucks, i would have liked to play them. but thats my point. the team that was picked to win left, making the division much easier. I don’t see why you’re still getting this upset. MY comments were ambiguous, fine, now ive explained myself.
I’m really not insulting you guys, I might be wrong(i have a horrible memory of people) but wasny it your team that i messaged after the game to tell you it was a good game, and you guys just need to practice some more. It’s not a slight, i’ve played a crapload of grifball. this account, with like 1500 grifball games on it wasnt even the account i started h3 on. timegnome is very experienced in the league. since nhl recently started playing grifball, hes been playing nonstop between league double exp and customs. We were put in a division against not nearly as experienced teams. You guys played well, but with more practice youll be a lot better. I’m not being insulting. you need to calm down.
