Members of the Grifball community are well known for their skills with the sword and the hammer, and epic trash talking. What is less known about the Grifball community is that beyond the hardened exterior and excessive teabagging, Grifballers are passionate gamers who care about giving back to the community.
This season, the players of the Cheap Ass Gamer (CAG) Grifball team dedicated all their games to Child’s Play by assigning dollar values to stats such as kills, deaths, and betrayals. Child’s Play is a community-based charity which has raised over five million dollars in donations of toys, games, books and cash for children’s hospitals across North America and the world.
CAG accepted pledges and donations from the Grifball community and also received support from CheapyD, owner of www.CheapAssGamer.com, the forums from which CAG hails. He pledged to match whatever amount was raised by the entire charity drive up to $1,000. Overall, CAG raised a total of $1,612.50 for Child’s Play. Although their season is now over, CAG will continue their fundraising efforts until September 30th, 2010.
In support of CAG and Child’s Play, GrifballHub.com will be holding 2 auctions with 100% of the proceeds going to Child’s Play. While at PAX 2010, Hub staff snagged a copy of Red vs Blue: The Recollection signed by Burnie Burns (Church), Geoff Ramsey (Grif), Matt Hullum (Sarge, Doc) and Gustavo Sorola (Simmons). The Hub will also be auctioning off a Halo: Reach Noble 6 action figure signed by 13 members of the Bungie staff.
