Now that Grifball is a permanent feature of the Halo: Reach landscape, thousands of people are enjoying killing Grif over and over again, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Any time you like, you can boot up your Xbox, jump into matchmaking, and have at him!
But the Grifball community is looking for ways to make your currently-awesome Grifball experience even better. We have a survey open for you to leave your feedback on how you like the playlist and what you would like to see in the future.
So far we’ve received dozens of responses. Here is a sampling of what we’ve heard so far:
Overall, people are enjoying their Grifball matchmaking experience. There are some negative feelings towards spawn-killers and stat-padders (and it is recommended that players go into the playlist with a team of four), but in general players are loving their Grifball matches.
Spawn killers suck Blarg.
I love Grifball. Grifball for the win :D
Grifball is my favorite game type on Reach. Thanks a bunch. Keep up the good work.
Great to have, Love it… Cant wait to get really into it
Grifball is my all time favorite game on Halo Reach, can’t stop Halo Reach till i had a good round on GRIFBAAAALLL.
Regarding the difference between Grifball Evolved (with Evade) and Vanilla Grifball (no Armor Abilities), players generally enjoy both. Vanilla Grifball is slightly favored, and if anecdotal data can be used, it seems to be voted for more often.
What is your favorite thing about the Vanilla Grifball gametype?
Stays true to the classic Halo 3 Grifball.
No armor abilities so there is a fair chance of winning.
Wall hops/ launching for sure.
Bomb Carrier is similar to the way it was in Halo 3.
Its like halo 3. Doing launches over peoples heads and having people not catch up by evading is amazing. I enjoy it much more.
Pretty good throwback to Halo 3 Grifball, nice to have the variety from the larger maps and armor abilities…. it keeps things from getting stale.
Great balance and quick pace.
The possibility for anything to happen
Thanks for doing the two load outs in vanilla
I liked the changes you made from the original playlist, keep it up.
What is your least favorite thing about Vanilla Grifball?
No armor abilities
99% of my games are vanilla, and 75% of them are stat padding contests. not my idea of fun. i think most people vote vanilla because it is much easier to spawn kill and get 50+ kills per game.
All the maps are essentially square. While I don’t want slopes and platforms, a longer rectangular map would he nice.
Lack of a weird map, like evolved has concave where it’s not just a flat arena.
Weakness of sword vs hammer
Speed, it feels slow. Even after playing the other gametypes on larger courts, Vanilla by comparison feels slow. But then again as an introduction to the game that is probably one of its better qualities as well.
Launches are next to impossible.
Host over other people
Mutual sword to ball/ hammer to hammer/ hammer to sword kills.
The griefing! when a team specifically take the ball and boosts kills on the other team for the whole duration of the game. It makes Griball unplayable and unfun, it even makes Reach unfun.
I don’t think it should be a guaranteed voting option. maybe set the weighting closer to 50-70%
Honestly, get rid of it. Halo 3 is gone and the league has to bring in the new style of grifball for Reach as the only option. People are just living in the past with Vanilla Grifball.
Regarding the Vanilla Grifball maps, Bloody Grifball seems to be the fan favorite. Pinwheel, with it’s court-spanning wall-hop ledge, is a close second. Oracle’s Revenge seems to be the least-favorite choice, although it is by no means disliked.
Any thoughts on the map Bloody Grifball?
Good playing field
I like the wall hop.
Personally I don’t like it. It’s well constructed, so don’t get me wrong. I just feel that there are a lot of the smaller vanilla courts I have seen that look much better.
1. I’ve seen people running along the ledge behind the goal. Do we need to make the walls smooth so they can’t do this, or is the ledge there on purpose? 2. Why are the round-start cameras down by the ground instead of inside the arena?
Balanced and enjoyable. Though I would change the health spawns to 45secs.
What is the point of the base below? Seems like it might run smoother with fewer items on the map.
It’s pretty, but I wish you could see the canyon more, like with grid floors
Any thoughts on the map Oracle’s Revenge?
For some reason I always have connection issues on that map. Having no wall hop ledges is kind of annoying even though I know thy want to differentiate between the vanilla maps.
No trick jumps=(
I dislike it. It seems bigger and its blah.
Frankly, it looks like a prison.
Much better than Bloody Grifball. It has an architecture that is much more pleasing.
I really dislike this map…absolutely nice design. Lack of a wall hop is both discouraging and makes this map really boring when going for highlights.
Not particularly a fan of this one (Sorry, nokyard…) Map lacks ‘decoration’ and seems fairly plain. The lack of the short wall for trick running possibilities is also disappointing. Still balanced and flat, so good for Vanilla.
Any thoughts on the map Pinwheel?
Best playing field. Most to look at.
The stunt ramp wall pieces were not a good choice, from the opposite end of the court they look terrible visually and also cause a significant amount of screen lag at times. I can only imagine that this issue would be multiplied while playing splitscreen.
I LOVE the Walls because you can wall jump off them.
Pinwheel is pretty awesome, and a nice aesthetic change from Bloody Grifball
Love the design, Great for trick running.
Wallhop all along the outside edge. Papa Cap Challenge anyone?
The full-court wall jumps are the best thing ever.
Next time, we’ll take a look at the feedback for Grifball Evolved, and also look into what the community would like to see in the next playlist update.
