It’s time! Signups for the second season of the Good Games League (GGL) in Reach are now open! Coming off a record-setting season last year, we’re back and better than ever!
If you’re enjoying Grifball Matchmaking, but are sad that it will only last for two weeks, you’re in luck! GrifballHub is here to feed your Grifball addiction. We run a Grifball League that includes a five-week regular season, followed by a three-week playoff bracket for the best teams in the league. However, don’t think that this is all hardcore, serious business – The GGL is a purely recreational league. Our number one goal is to ensure that you have fun while playing the Sport of the Future!
If you’re an old pro, go ahead and sign up here. Remember: You MUST have at least four players on your team to register!
If you’re new here, first you need a team. If you’re looking for players, feel free to leave a comment on this article or post in this thread. I encourage you to be proactive and reach out to other free agents on the forums or on Xbox Live.
If you have a team of four, you need to identify when you would like to play. Your team will be responsible for showing up every week, starting the week of January 31st, at the time below of your choosing:
Monday (8:00PM American EST)
Tuesday (8:00PM American EST)
Wednesday (10:00PM American EST)
Thursday (10:00PM American EST)
Friday (11:00PM American EST)
Saturday (4:00PM American EST)
Sunday (7:00PM American EST)
If you choose a time, you are making a commitment to have your team online and ready to play at that time, every week for five weeks. You will play two games every week at the time you sign up for. If an unforeseen circumstances arise, and one or more of your players cannot make it to a weekly match, you can substitute in any league player you want to play for your team. If your entire squad can’t make it one week, you can also reschedule for another night or make up the game during the “makeup week”, which is the week after the five-week regular season.
Once you are placed in a division, you will simply have to show up every week. Every other team in your division will have the same availability and will be at your same skill level. You and your team will be provided with a fun, recreational Grifball experience every week!
If you’re not from North America, don’t fret: You can sign up to play. We will do our best to place you in a division with other teams from your part of the world. But please pay attention to the sign up times. The times listed are in American Eastern Standard Time, which means that you have to find out what time that is in your area. You don’t want to accidentally sign up to play Grifball in the middle of the night! If you need help, check out this time zone converter.
Perhaps the best part about the league is that you are free to play on any Grifball map and gametype you want. The default gametype is GGL Dash 2011, and the default map is the newest version of the GGL Coliseum. The default gametype is a five-round timed game, just like in Matchmaking, but it includes both Sprint and Evade. But if you want to try out something else, you’re more than free to do so, as long as both captains in the match agree on the settings. Feel free to look around our Map and Gametype Resource Center. Or if Matchmaking settings are your thing, you can download updated versions of the matchmaking maps and gametypes on my fileshare here.
Finally, our recreational league has one more bonus: Grifball Achievements! Called “Achieveables”, these fun challenges are presented every week as something neat for your team to try during your weekly games. For example, we might challenge you to win the game with your entire team having an overall negative Kill/Death ratio. If you complete a challenge during the regular season and submit it, your team will be awarded GrifPoints. At the end of the season, the teams with the highest GrifScore will make the playoffs, regardless of their record! So you could lose every game (go 0-10), and still make it to the postseason! More information on our Achieveables will become available as we get closer to the start of the season.
If you have any questions about the league, feel free to post in our forums, leave a comment below or send us a message with this form. Feel free, as well, to send me, the League Administrator, an Xbox Live Message. My Gamertag is Kalbelgarion.
Go gather your friends and sign up for GrifballHub’s Good Games League today! Signups close next Friday, January 28th. The season begins the week of January 31st.
See you on the court!
