It’s time again to get your teams together and gear up for another fun-filled season of GrifballHub’s Good Games League!
The GGL is a recreational Grifball league with a central focus on one thing…having fun! This relaxed environment is ideal for new players looking to have a fun time while learning the sport as well as experienced teams looking to have a good time playing Reach Grifball.
This season, we are making one big change and one big addition.
First of all, the official gametype for this upcoming season is GGL Dash 2011. This gametype has the same damage and gravity settings as the latest Dash variant, but in an effort to make players more familiar with Matchmaking Grifball feel more at home, it’s cut down to five timed rounds of three minutes each. The default court will be the latest version of the GGL Coliseum.
Of course, as with every other season of the GGL, teams are more than welcome to use other settings and maps. As long as both captains agree, you can play using nine-round Grifball Dash, Grifball Evolved, or even BansheeBall. It’s entirely up to you! To get an idea of what else is out there, check out our Grifball Map and Gametype resource center.
Secondly, as some of the more experienced folks may have guessed, this season of the GGL will mark the return of the Achieveables.
What are Achieveables? They are fun challenges that teams are encouraged to complete each week during their regular season games, much like Xbox Live Achievements or Bungie’s Daily and Weekly Challenges. Each Achieveable is worth a specific number of GrifPoints for your team. At the end of the season, the teams with the highest GrifScore will make it to the playoffs, regardless of their record. So even if you go 0-10, you can still make it to the postseason!
Some of the classic Achieveables that we used in Halo 3 Grifball will be making a return, such as the CAG specialty (Win the game with a negative team K/D spread) and those that require serious concentration (Go the entire game without a single sword kill). But we will also be introducing new Achieveables that will take advantage of the new moves available in Reach Grifball. And, for the very first time, there will be a special weekly Achieveable that you can earn off the court!
So when can you and your crew get in on this fun and exciting Grifball action? Well, signups will open on Friday, January 21 and remain open until 11:59PM EST on Friday, January 28. All teams from all countries are welcome, regardless of their experience level. The divisions and schedules will be released on January 30, and league play will begin on January 31.
To help ensure that everyone has a fun time, teams will be placed in divisions based primarily on their availability and secondarily on their level of experience. Newer teams will play other newer teams, while the more experienced Green Armies and Clutch Coffees of the world will be put in their own divisions together. Teams from outside North America will be grouped together based on their availability and their geographic location.
Finally, since we want to maximize the fun factor, teams will be allowed to request that they be placed in the same divisions as their friends. If you know of another squad that you want to share a division with, you will be able to ask to be paired with your BFFs!
