Hilariously enough, the number one question that we get regarding our favorite sport is simply:
how do I griffball???
We’re prepared to answer that question simply:
Anyway you want!
GrifballHub’s Good Games League is beginning its seventh season this month. The GGL is a recreational Grifball League that welcomes all players of all skill levels who are just looking to have a good time playing some organized Grifball. If you and three friends are looking to have some fun playing Grifball one night a week, you gotta sign up!
Get in on this Grifball action!
Signups will open on Friday, May 13th and they will remain open for one week, until 11:59PM EST on Friday, May 20th. Teams that sign up must have at least four players on their stated roster, including the team captain. Teams will be asked for their location and their experience level, so teams can be placed into divisions based on their availability, geographic area, time zone, and Grifball talent.
The season runs for five weeks. Teams that sign up will be asked to play Grifball one night a week for five weeks. Your team will be placed in a division with five other teams with the same availability. Captains can sign up for any one of these seven day/time combinations:
Mondays at 8:00PM EST
Tuesdays at 8:00PM EST
Wednesdays at 10:00PM EST
Thursdays at 10:00PM EST
Fridays at 11:00PM EST / Saturday at 1:00PM Australian EST
Saturdays at 2:00PM EST / 6:00PM GMT
Sundays at 7:00PM EST
Teams from around the world are welcome to join the league. However, teams from Europe must sign up for the Saturday at 6:00PM GMT time slot. Teams from Australia, surrounding Oceania, and Asia must sign up for the Fridays at 11:00PM EST / Saturday at 1:00PM Australian EST time slot. If you need help with timezones, check out this time zone converter.
If you choose a time, you are making a commitment to have your team online and ready to play at that time, every week for five weeks. You will play two games every week at the time you sign up for. If an unforeseen circumstances arise, and one or more of your players cannot make it to a weekly match, you can substitute in any league player you want to play for your team. If your entire squad can’t make it one week, you can also reschedule for another night or make up the game during the “makeup week”, which is the week after the five-week regular season.
Get your team ready!
Once you are placed in a division, you will simply have to show up every week. Every other team in your division will have the same availability and will be at your same skill level. You and your team will be provided with a fun, recreational Grifball experience every week!
At the end of the five-week season, the top teams will advance to the playoffs. After going through the post-season tournament, we will have our third GGL Halo Reach Grifball champions!
If you’re looking for players, feel free to post in this thread. I encourage you to be proactive and reach out to other free agents on the forums or on Xbox Live.
If your team is looking for help learning the ropes of Grifball, check out our new GGL Grifball Mentor Program. We can get you hooked up with a veteran team to help you out. Post in this thread with your team’s details and we can give you a hand throughout the season.
If you need to get your squad warmed up for the season, check out these three tournaments we’ll be running over the next week. Simply be online at the set time, sign up your team for the one-night tournament, and meet some new players on the court! Check out this article for more details.
Have fun playing Grifball your way.
In this league, you can play Grifball any way you want. The default court for the season is an outdoor map called Sierra Vista. You can find out more information about the new court here. The default gametype is GGL Dash 2011, a five round, timed version of Grifball Dash, which is Grifball with both Sprint and Evade.
However, if both captains agree, teams are free to use any Grifball map and gametype they wish! If you’d like to use the matchmaking version of Vanilla Grifball on the well-known Pinwheel court, you’re more than welcome to do so. If you’d like to try out Blargball on Clover, HandEgg on Hyperbaric, Bansheeball, Grifball Dash on BallFall, or Grifball Evolved on Concave, you can play those, too! There is no version of Grifball you are barred from using, as long as both teams are up for it. When it comes to how you play, teams are free to go nuts!
Soccer balls can be deadlier than hammers.
Finally, our recreational league has one more bonus: Grifball Achievements! Called “Achieveables”, these fun challenges are presented every week as something neat for your team to try during your weekly games. For example, we might challenge you to win the game with your entire team having an overall negative Kill/Death ratio. If you complete a challenge during the regular season and submit it, your team will be awarded GrifPoints. At the end of the season, the teams with the highest GrifScore will make the playoffs, regardless of their record! So you could lose every game (go 0-10), and still make it to the postseason! More information on our Achieveables is available in this detailed article.
If you have any questions about the league, our events, the maps and gametypes, or the Achieveables, please feel free to ask! You can fill out this contact form, leave a comment below, or post a question on our forums. If you’re looking for more Grifball, now is the perfect time to jump in! Get your team together and sign up for the league next Friday, May 13th!
See you on the court!
Hope to see your team sign up!
