It’s that time again. Time to get together with friends, drop the super serious face, and indulge in the only recreational Grifball league around: Grifball Hub’s Good Games League!
If you’re looking to sign up your team, click here. If you’re looking for a little more information on the GGL, read on…
What is the GGL?
The GGL is a recreational Grifball league. Run by Goosechecka and Kalbelgarion (with support from the rest of the Hub staff), the league emphasizes fun and camaraderie over competition; Think of this league as an organized scrimmage night, rather than a serious race for the championship.
After you sign up, your team will be placed in a division based on your experience and availability. League games take place on Wednesday nights. Your team will play two games a week for four or five weeks, and at the end of the season at least the top four teams will advance to the playoffs.
While each team is required to have at least four players, when game night rolls around, don’t fret if you can’t get four players on. Unique to the GGL is the “guest player” rule: If your team is short a player or two, simply find another person in the GGL to sub in. As long as the substitute player isn’t on the opposing team, you’re free to use any of your friends in the GGL!
Finally, since we know that every team isn’t blessed with…umm…talent, we’ve added in another way to have fun (and make the playoffs!). The GGL also features “Grifball Achieveables”–fun goals to meet during the game that any team can accomplish. While some take a certain amount of skill (i.e.: Win the game with a negative team K/D spread), others are perfectly accessible for any squad (Go through the entire game without a single sword kill for your team).
Each Achieveable is worth a certain number of GrifPoints. At the end of the season, the two teams with the highest GrifScores each get a free pass into the playoffs, regardless of their record!
Whether you’re a Grifball newbie looking to experience the sport for the first time, or you’re an experienced pro looking to keep your skills sharp during the next six weeks, check out the GGL.
GGL sign-ups will run from Wednesday June 2 to Wednesday June 9. The first week of the season will kick off on Wednesday, June 16. Each Team will be placed in either an “early” or “late” division: 8:30 PM EST or 11:30 PM EST. Teams based predominately in the Eastern or Central time zones are encouraged to sign up for the early slot, while teams in the Mountain and Pacific time zones should first see if the late slot would work for them.
Although the GGL is a recreational league, there are rules. Captains should be familiar with the rules before they sign up their teams. But if you’re simply nice to other folks in the league, you’ll never even know the rules are there.
