When the Master Chief Collection launched last November, the very first bug noticed by diehard Grifballers was the lack of proper “gametype” menu in Halo 3 Forge. Maps could be changed in basic editing, but any gametype-specific edits, such as moving the bomb spawn and bomb plate for Assault, were impossible.
Because of this, Halo 3 Grifball was impossible to recreate without a patch.
That patch is coming later this month.
Today, 343 Industries announced that Halo 3 Forge will be fixed with April’s Content Update (CU):
Over the past few weeks, the team has been cranking away on the upcoming April update, which has now entered the certification process and is on track for release next week. We’ll have the full patch notes when the update goes live, but here are a few of the items that will be included in the update:
New penalties and monitoring for quitting and betrayals
A variety of ranking system improvements and fixes
Updated Halo 3 Forge to include editing for all game types
Forge guru NOKYARD has already recreated the classic Halo 3 Foundry court, minus the objective gametype objects. Once the patch is released, an official Halo 3 Grifball map and gametype will be ready within minutes.
This also means that GrifballHub will be collecting Halo 3 and Halo 4 Grifball maps and gametypes to send to 343 Industries for possible inclusion a in potential Grifball matchmaking playlist.
For Grifball league players, this means that GGL teams this season may play Halo 3 Grifball on the MCC if they wish, provided both team captains involved in the match agree. The default gametype will remain Halo 4 Grifball, but Halo 3 Grifball is an option open to everybody.
Grifballers are very excited to finally be able to play Halo 3 Grifball on the Xbox One. GrifballHub will be providing tournaments and more to accomodate the demand from the Grifball community.
