AGLA Pro Captain and longtime Grifball veteran InfiniteRainX has been around for a while and has seen (and been on) some good teams over the years. Today, he takes a look at the current situation for each of the AGLA’s Pro teams.
10. One Hit Wonders
At the start of the season or even before it began if you were to ask me what I thought of this team I would’ve said that I consider them easy playoff contenders, I mean the team that Rage managed to pulled looked rather solid on paper and having gone up against them before in scrims they already had good chemistry. A team comprised of Rage more nerd, about73puppies, imShad, Noplex and xSco ablazen was bound for greatness….then as the weeks went by this team just started to collapse. From puppies caught cheating, to sco leaving for a new job (lel) to Noplex and shad being traded off just about nothing was going right for this team which is why they are now ranked in last place. The team currently consists of Rage, Xach, Ouglaf and….well whoever rage decides to call up from Ammy. I’m not sure how well rage will manage to pull this team out of the ashes or if it’s possible, but if he could almost beat ND with a line up of sco, Noplex and xach then maybe it could Be possible land some upsets. Will it be enough to secure them a playoff spot? At 4-4 it’s possible but after this week we will be able to get a better idea of whether or not they will have a chance. Their wins haven’t been all too spectacular honestly, two wins over Legitimate Strategy, one against Pro Run and the last a victory over Retro which would be impressive if it wasn’t before the puppies ban. Let’s see what you can do Rage.
9. Legitimate Strategy
Where to begin with this team….captained by xRebsx who has been around the block a while I expected him to field a team that would’ve been at least a threat. While he is new to captaining in the bid league I wasn’t expecting him to go ahead and pick up a team of his closest friends in the league, but that’s exactly what he did and because of that lands his team at number nine. Consisting of Snickerdoodle, Triumph Hosti, GhostMachine024 and now Kev1897 this team hasn’t really found much if any success after four weeks. Even when this team had Nikodemons they weren’t performing all that much better, and as the weeks have gone by its clear that they have all but given up. I recall this team accepting to play 4v3 against NOT not even trying to get an ammy call up so it shows that this team has lost all their drive and possibility of a playoff spot unless they somehow miraculously get some major wins under their belts. As it stands I expect this team to remain at the bottom.
Now this is an interesting team to talk about that had recently gone through a major face lift. At the start of the season the team consisted of captain Melvin, Perfect Demise, Kev1897, NetsPride15 and AJ DaJuiceMayne which on paper seemed like an interesting team already but having played against them in scrims they weren’t really looking all too hot. Now skip four weeks into the regular season and this team now has in my opinion a solid chance of making playoffs now with Notorious having suffered similar tragedies as One Hit Wonders….but more of that later. Uplifted had done away with PD and Kev to recruit imShad and Nikodemons and has become a serious threat because of those trades. They managed to defeat Retroactive 5-3 with the line up of Melvin, Niko, Nets and AJ and this is without the use of imShad so this is a good sign that this team is here to play and will easily move up come next team rankings. As for playoff contention, they have a very solid chance of making it.
7. Pro Run
The current AGLA championship defending team had a lot to live up at the start of the season and being captained by Killerz Legit again people were expecting for this team to have yet another contention for the ship….but four weeks into the season and that dream might just be out of their grasp. This team consisted of Juc, DJBlue PDX, x FearlessFive and SKiYTTLES which is by far the weirdest line up on paper I’ve seen and wasn’t really expected to work. And with this team having traded off Five for inhumaneRelic that there alone was enough to show that things weren’t coming together for this team. Having lost their best player didn’t do any wonders for this team and haven’t really made bid waves with wins against any playoff contending teams. The fire that Killerz had at the start of the season I loved seeing because maybe there was something that we weren’t seeing yet, but now it’s becoming clear that we’ve pretty much seen everything this team has to offer and unfortunately that means quite possibly missing out on playoffs.
6. Hybrid Theory
Now we get into the teams that have the best and most realistic chances to get into playoffs. With only four spots for teams to get a chance at the ship every team from here on out needs to bring out all the stops and play as if that could very well be their last chance game, and to be honest Hybrid Theory might very well miss their chance. Let me back this up a bit, at the start of the season this team was considered by many to be the top team, the team with the best chance of making playoffs and winning the ship. The head honcho the big cheese numero uno can’t possibly be beat by any other team how could captains be dumb enough to let this team happen etc etc etc. And a team consisting of captain Ezy08, ixGingy, Dabb (Flyin Cyan), Cutthroat912 and Solace VIII on paper looks to be a very very scary team….but what most people made the mistake of doing was mistaking H5 to be H4. On the previous game this would’ve been the ship team hands down, but this is an Entirely new game where you’re starting to see new talent emerge and not all of the former top pros have managed to grasp this game yet. Now this isn’t a bad team at all don’t get me wrong, having played against them recently they did put up a good fight but good just might not be good enough at this point. What this team needs to do is get it together and take the rest of the season seriously for them to have any chance of making playoffs. But with Solace and Dabb nowhere to be found this team isn’t looking all that well.
Captain Alphaturtle back at it again with his usual strategy of going hard for AceBSilentND1 and expecting him to carry him all the way to playoffs. The team alpha managed to form this season is another solid looking team consisting of of course Ace, ReactiveWinter, El Terrible and VXI Gambit IXV. Having gone up against them and lost to them they are a very solid all around team who are the current #1 team in sword conference. Realistically this team along with my team have the best chance of making playoffs with how dead our conference is, so I don’t really have to go into detail on what this team needs to do in order to make playoffs. Just need to make sure Ace’s back is regularly massaged and they should be good to go.
Now this team has had quite the roller coaster ride having gone through bans, trades, upsets and losses that after this week you most likely won’t see this team any higher than where they are at currently. Captain Almighty Tycoon managed to form a very solid team at the start of the season with a team that had the likes of Pinnheadlarry24, xQueenCatoriX, Mr Ab0veAverage and Xach. This team managed to defeat some tough teams during the beginning of the season including One Hit Wonders and my team as well, things were looking well for this team until practically the same situation that befell OHW happened to NOT. As it stands Boss is currently banned for the remainder of the season, Queen has found a new home on my team and with AboveAverage having not been around lately this team is in dangerous waters. Their record right now is what is keeping this team alive for playoff contention, but after this coming week that too might fall as this team has. What this team needs to do In order to keep in contention is to get AboveAverage back into playing and carrying this team to some big wins. Now if this will happen we will have to see…
3. Vital Signs
Hey that’s my team! I was gonna let Tonga just do this one alone and I’d have him not do his write up for his team but I figured why not talk up our teams? Captained by InfiniteRainX I managed to form yet another interesting team of new comers into the league consisting of SKR Dragon, Josiah Freeman and Adorablized along with not so new player Ouglaf. I will be honest in saying that my team as of now has been rather inconsistent, possibly the most out of all of the teams on this list. Currently at 6-5 we have had some great wins, some not so spectacular wins, expected losses and some unexpected losses as well. The challenge that comes with introducing brand new players into the league is teaching them how to play at a competitive level of this caliber against players who have years of experience against them, it hasn’t been an easy ride but I have faith in my team. Having recently acquired xQueenCatoriX for Ouglaf not many were expecting that to work out. Rain you gave Up your dedicated runner for a tank! What were you thinking! Much love to you Ouglaf, but I made the decision all because of chemistry. Queen has melded well with my team in our last two games and I expect us to only get better with more playing. With a rematch against Retro this week we have a good chance of taking the #1 seat back, this will be make it or break it for us.
2. Next Dimension
Even before this team acquired xFearlessFive I considered this team to be a threat, not number two level of threat but still a top 5 team. This team used to consist of captain piIVIinthecrib, TariqmacpotV4, InhumaneRelic, Outgunnery Sgt and SKR Vigilante and now you have xFearlessFive in place of relic. What do you get? The current second best team in the league all because of one single trade. The chemistry that sweaty tryhard extraordinaire Tariq and Five have alone is worthy of fear, but add in pimps conservative smart running and Glockshines refusal to die tanking you have a line up that is nearly unbeatable. Their current record of of 9-2 is impressive with their only losses having been against the number one team, this team will have no problem making playoffs unless Uplifted makes bid waves out of nowhere.
Captain Kid Tonga1 has really shown this season why he is the best runner in the league and his excellent leadership. Coming off a recent GGL ship I know how well Tonga leads his teammates on the court and it’s no surprise that this team is number one given his leadership and the players he managed to get. Consisting of iGalvanator, xStarBlade, KING RICKXL and silentshadow459 this is the team I expected people to show the same disbelieve shown towards Hybrid Theory, but it took only two weeks for everyone to finally realize that his team is the team to beat. The amount of tanking power in this team is near unbeatable, and adding tongas running into the mix you basically have a modern day Way to Fail. Currently at 9-1 this team will for sure make playoffs easily and has the best chance of winning the ship as of now. But wait they have one loss, who managed to defeat the best team?? Ahem Lel
