Hey there! PoisonxPoptart here with yet another Ammy Captain Interview! This time we have captain of Supernova Sailor Tuna, who has officially been part of the first roster to not have the team explode, congrats!
Starting off with bidding, what was your strategy? Where there certain players you were really looking at before hand? What were some players that you wanted to snag but just couldn’t?
I volunteered to be a captain like a week before bidding started with no knowledge of anyone in the pool or knowledge of Halo 5 whatsoever as I had been RIP for a year+. So when it came to scouting, I didn’t get much of a chance to look at a lot of players, especially those who went into hiding so they could be picked up cheap by their friends that were captains, so I was disadvantaged. But there one player I instantly made my priority, and that was Vile/Eternaliy. I was also trying to snag Sonic pretty early on but I let him go for fear that Vile would escalate into the hundreds, which he didn’t. I also wanted Trespa5s and/or darkcity6, but I was too preoccupied to bid on darkcity before Pacfan did. Overall my strategy was to get a cheap, fun team, which I succeeded in doing.
Being a first time captain this season, how was your first season bidding? Did you already have an idea of it worked and how to play it? Did you get help? Did you learn how some of bidding plays the hard way?
Bidding gave me too much anxiety but I knew how it worked when the time came. I asked some pro caps for advice, like whether I should go big with a bid now or wait, little things like that. Bidding wasn’t really hard for me, I only just planned for the worst, which was Vile going for way more credits than he actually did. I also played dumb a lot and pretended I had no idea what I was doing so I feel kinda bad for the people that I trolled and genuinely took pity on me and tried to help me lol.
So if you were to redo bidding right now, what (realistic) team do you think you could/would’ve had?
I could’ve gotten Vile and Sonic probably but if I were to redo bidding, my strategy would’ve been more focused on getting Vile and TcT Conviction. Otherwise I wouldn’t really have changed my team.
What were some of your expectations for the season? How did you think your team was going to do? Did you think you’d do better or worse?
I really didn’t expect Verity to become such a breakout player but the guy really went above and beyond trying to improve his play style and he more than deserved a starting spot on my roster, which I didn’t expect at all. I also really expected being able to bench myself and getting away with it but turns out I was needed more than I wanted to be. I’m an average player, always have been, so I expected my team’s season to be average, which turns out was pretty accurate. Didn’t quite make playoffs but was just on the cusp, which I’m totally fine with. My team was a fun group of guys and I’m happy I got them all on my team.
Yet again, being a first time captain, what did you expect your workload to be vs what it really was? Was it easier than expected? Was it harder? Do you have any possible advice for potential newer captains that don’t know what to expect?
I regret offering to be a captain because so many real life hardships seemed to drop right around when bidding started, so the workload was too much for me. I wasn’t able to scrim and practice with my team like I wanted to because I was constantly making trips to my parents home to visit ailing grandparents and to attend a funeral. Perhaps if none of those things came up, this season would’ve been a lot easier and I’d have more time on my hands. My advice to newer captains is to follow the rules, ask the admins about any questions you have, and plan for the unexpected. Oh, and don’t be a dick and light a dumpster fire.
What are some of your plans for next season? Are you planning on captaining again? Are you going into the pool? Are you going to play at all?
I’m going back into the grave. I don’t plan on captaining or playing again. Unless a pal like Sab or maybe Four miraculously captains and is like “let’s go”, I’m not gonna sign up again.
What are some of your thoughts on Halo 5? What are some changes you’d make to the game?
I wasn’t able to make any of those gametype-testing rushes unfortunately so I can’t have much of an opinion on anything that was tried, but sliding should probably be nerfed. I was not much of a fan of Halo 5 but I was appreciative of how easy it was to get the hang of given I didn’t have much time to polish my skill so I skated by.
Is there a specific mechanic you enjoy? (Smart Link, Ground Pound, Sliding, Thruster ect…)
Smart Link was scary and I could never get it to work but then again I’m just awful with the sword (and yet y’all call me a hybrid). Thrusters were a nice feature I think but that in combination with sliding was a bit too much.
Who do you think is going to make the finals? Who do you think is going to win the ship?
Aftershock and Underrated in the ship. Honestly I’m pretty 50/50 on who would win but maybe Aftershock
Who’s your mvp for this season?
Myself for the being the only girl in ammy obviously? Realistically, probably Vile. But team-wise, I wanna say Verity. I could also say Panther Lily for being my co-cap when I was dealing with family stuff. So, my whole team?
Is there anything you’d like to say to the community, team, or your adoring fans?
1 lord, 1 faith, 2 nunchucks.
There you have it! Thanks you very much Tuna for taking the time to do this interview, means a lot to me and to the community. I hope you have a good time in the grave and I hope you’ll come back eventually! Good luck and thanks for being a captain this season, you did great!
